Terms of Service
Last updated: November 4, 2026 · Terms v2.1
Effective date: October 25, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Umma, operated by Yousef Kassim of Texas, pending formation of Lifta Holdings, LLC, a Texas limited liability company, which will assume these terms when it is formed ("Umma," "we," "us"). They cover the Umma app, the Umma masjid tools and ummapro.com (together, "Umma"). By using Umma you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you set up a child profile, you agree on the child's behalf.
1. Who can use Umma
There is no minimum age. Anyone under 13 (or the age of digital consent where they live) uses Umma through a child profile attached to a parent's or guardian's account, which the parent creates and controls. Everyone else may create their own account. Give us accurate information and keep your sign-in secure; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
2. What Umma is, and is not
Umma helps you keep track of your worship and connect with your community. It is a tool, not a religious authority.
Umma Search optionally uses Claude to interpret searches in your own words. AI-assisted matches and explanations can be wrong; Quran text always comes from Umma's index. Ordinary search remains available when AI is off, unavailable or limited.
Craft a dua helps put what you choose to share into personal words. Composed words are not Quran, hadith, a religious ruling, or a promise of a particular outcome or reward. This arrangement is a helpful way to make dua, not a required form. Quran passages and prophetic duas are quoted from the reviewed library with their sources. Review the output yourself; for a ruling, ask a scholar. Draft sources remain unavailable in production pending review.
Crafting is optional and subject to safety controls and usage limits: Free allows one crafted dua a day; Pro fair use is 30 a day. A retry counts toward that limit. Umma does not compose requests promoting extremist violence or duas against people; that is a product choice, not a statement that every such request is religiously prohibited. Limits or temporary unavailability never prevent access to the reviewed dua library. See Privacy §2 for processing, local saving and consent.
- Prayer times are calculated using the method set for your region, which you can change in Settings. Confirm with your local masjid where it matters.
- Qibla uses your phone's sensors; accuracy depends on the device and surroundings. Calibrate when prompted.
- Rakah detection, Prayer Mode, jama'ah suggestions, and tawaf and sa'i counting are aids. They can be wrong. Your own count governs; the app's suggestion never replaces your judgment, and no ruling on validity is implied.
- Live khutbahs keep you connected to a masjid. Listening remotely does not fulfill Jumu'ah, and the app says so.
- Learn content is informational and reviewed for accuracy, but it does not replace a scholar, imam or teacher.
- Excused Days is a calendar aid, not medical advice.
- Nothing in Umma is legal, tax, financial or medical advice.
3. Points, stars, streaks and referrals
Points are encouragement, not a measure of reward. Points, stars, badges and streaks have no cash value and cannot be transferred or redeemed. Prayer leads the points system; ordinary extras share a daily limit. Pro never changes points. Correcting an entry silently corrects its credit and any same-day bonus it alone triggered; milestones from earlier days remain. There are no penalties for time away. Private narration tallies are separate from points and are never shared or compared.
Referral rewards are promotional, may change, and may be withheld for self-referrals, fake accounts or spam. Do not send invitations to people who have not asked for them.
4. Pro subscriptions
Pro adds convenience and insight, never access to worship: Salah Calendar planner; Makeups planner; extended Insights and history (month, year and trends); detailed prayer weather and weather reminders; Ramadan sky and sky share image.
Always free: prayer times, athan, Qibla, Quran reading, listening and search, tasbeeh, adhkar, Prayer Mode and Learn. Calendar today and tomorrow, soft guard, prayer locks and Jumu'ah reminders are free. Pro adds Calendar days beyond tomorrow, Repeat, suggestions, busy write-back and Pray together. Travel-aware planning and live traffic are not offered in this release.
Pro is billed through the App Store or Google Play at the price shown there and renews automatically until you cancel in your store subscription settings. Where Apple confirms introductory-offer eligibility, the app offers a 7-day free trial at the displayed renewal price and period. Free for 7 days, then the displayed price per period. Renews automatically until cancelled. Cancel anytime in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Ineligible subscribers see the price without a trial. One optional local reminder can be turned off in Calendar settings. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we cannot issue them directly. A Family plan covers one manager plus profiles they add; the manager does not gain access to any member's private data unless they choose to share it. Plus plans are not offered in the app at present. Features in Pro may change; we will not remove a feature you paid for in the current billing period without a refund or credit.
Calendar today and tomorrow, soft guard and one repeating prayer intention are free. Pro adds Week, later days, unlimited repeating intentions and aspirations. Connected calendars are read on the device; event titles and categories never leave the phone. Aspirations stay encrypted on the device and are not backed up. Busy blocks are written only when the user turns that on.
5. Giving
Umma lets you donate to masjids and vetted charities and pay fidya. When you give:
- Umma is a facilitator, not the recipient. Payments are processed by Stripe and delivered to the recipient you chose. Umma takes no percentage of donations to masjids. Payment-processing fees are shown before you confirm.
- Recurring and automatic giving (Jumu'ah, the last ten nights, "when I enter a masjid," fidya) runs on the rules you set until you change or stop them in Settings.
- Receipts come from the recipient, or from the processor on the recipient's behalf. Whether a gift is tax-deductible depends on the recipient and your situation; ask a tax professional.
- Donations are generally not refundable. If you believe a payment was made in error, contact us within 30 days and we will work with the recipient.
- We vet charities and claimed masjids in good faith but do not guarantee how a recipient uses funds.
6. Masjid tools
A masjid representative may claim a masjid page by verifying their role. By claiming a page you confirm you are authorized to represent the masjid, you will keep its information accurate, you will use messaging only to reach people who chose your masjid and only about the masjid, and you accept that you receive only anonymized, banded community data, never individual attendance or listener identities. A masjid that broadcasts a khutbah gives Umma permission to transmit it live and store it for the replay period the masjid sets. We may remove a claim for misuse. Donations to a claimed masjid go to the payment account the masjid provides; the masjid is responsible for its receipts and tax status.
7. Your content
You own what you post (duas, deeds, notes, photos of masjids, recordings). You give us a license to store, display and transmit it as needed to run Umma and to show it to the people you chose. If you make something Public, other users may see and share it within Umma. You are responsible for your content. Do not post anything unlawful, hateful, sexual, harassing, deceptive or infringing, or that reveals someone else's private information. We may remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules, and may be required to report certain content to authorities. Verified profiles must use truthful credentials; we may revoke verification at any time.
Quran text, translations, recitation audio, athan voices and Learn content are provided by Umma or licensed to us, for your personal, non-commercial use within the app.
8. Location and safety
Automatic check-ins, journeys, departure reminders and directions depend on location you choose to share. Umma is not a navigation app. Do not use your phone while driving. Departure times are estimates. You are responsible for your own safety when travelling to a masjid or anywhere else.
9. Community conduct
Be kind. No harassment, impersonation, spam, scraping, or attempts to identify other users from community data. Do not try to access data you were not given, interfere with the service, or reverse-engineer the app except where the law allows. Child profiles may be contacted only by people the parent approved.
10. Privacy
The Privacy Policy explains what we collect and your controls. In short: your worship data is private by default and shared only when you choose. Masjids see only anonymized counts.
11. Changes and ending the service
We will keep improving Umma and may add, change or retire features. We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these terms. You can delete your account any time in Settings; see the Privacy Policy and how to delete your account. If we ever shut Umma down, we will give at least 60 days' notice and a way to export your data.
12. Disclaimers and limits
Umma is provided "as is." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any amount above the greater of what you paid us in the past 12 months or $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where that is the case, they apply only as far as permitted. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything the law does not allow us to limit.
13. Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Texas and applicable U.S. federal law. Before filing any claim, email [email protected] and give us 30 days to resolve it. Any dispute not resolved will be decided by binding individual arbitration under the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules, held in San Antonio, Texas or by video, except that either side may bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and either side may seek an injunction for intellectual-property misuse in court. Class actions and class arbitrations are waived. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of first accepting these terms. If arbitration is found unenforceable, the state and federal courts in Bexar County, Texas have exclusive jurisdiction. Users in the EU, UK or other places with mandatory consumer protections keep those protections.
14. Miscellaneous
These terms, with the Privacy Policy and any feature-specific terms shown in the app, are the whole agreement. If a part is unenforceable, the rest stands. We may assign these terms to a successor, including Lifta Holdings, LLC on its formation. Our failure to enforce something is not a waiver. Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of the parts of these terms that concern apps distributed through their stores and may enforce them.
15. Location permissions and Salah Focus
Prayer Mode recovery is a prompt for you to confirm a prayer, not a determination that you prayed. Jumu'ah quieting and phone-away reminders depend on a current presence lease, device scheduling and your settings. Salah Focus and Share Across Devices are system features you configure yourself. Umma cannot lock your phone, change its ringer or guarantee that another app or a disconnected Watch stays silent.
Optional Apple Health access is write-only. Prayer Mode may use a temporary Mind and Body workout to open the paired Watch and keep motion sensing on, and always discards that workout. Mindful Minutes are saved only for confirmed prayers when you enable that option; Undo removes the sample. Health data is not read, uploaded to Umma, used for marketing or included in Umma backups. Apple controls Health syncing according to your system settings. Watch launch, background motion and system Activity behavior require compatible devices and are not guarantees of prayer recognition or medical measurements.
Location-based arrivals and notification controls depend on your device permissions and operating-system scheduling. You configure Salah Focus yourself. Umma cannot turn Focus on or disable alerts from other apps.
16. Third-party content and attributions
Quran text is supplied by Tanzil, unchanged. Pickthall’s The Meaning of the Glorious Koran is public domain. Fonts, recordings, maps, directory data and other materials retain their respective licences. Full credits and licence notices are available in Settings → About → Attributions. Attribution does not imply endorsement or a partnership.
If Umma links to an outside podcast, it opens in that podcast's own app or site; Umma doesn't host or re-host the audio.
© OpenStreetMap contributors. The OSM-derived masjid directory data is available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL) on request: [email protected]. Overture data is credited under CDLA-Permissive 2.0 and Foursquare data under Apache 2.0.
17. Optional Watch Quiet Sense
Watch Quiet Sense is experimental, opt-in and off by default. Its estimates are suggestions, not confirmation that a prayer took place. Raw accelerometer recordings are held only by watchOS's system recorder for up to three days; Umma checks them in memory on your watch and sends only posture events to your paired phone. Raw samples are never written, uploaded or backed up by Umma. Posture events are excluded from Umma backups and private server commands. Turning it off stops Umma's checks, event transfers and renewals, but watchOS finishes a recording already requested. Low Power Mode pauses checks and renewals. Background delivery and accuracy must be tested on compatible devices and are not guaranteed.
18. Mind, Body, and Soul + Nafs
The section, walkthrough, personal goals, manual Body tracking, your own week, circles and all points remain free. Pro does not change points. Your path and Calendar walk/workout suggestions, masjid and all-of-Umma comparisons, and trends beyond this week are planned Pro tools, not available in this update. Health connection is a placeholder; manual logging is optional. Growth picks and wellness answers stay encrypted on the device and are excluded from sync and backups. Comparison and circle-name settings currently store a choice only, without sharing data. These tools offer personal encouragement, not medical advice or a measure of religious reward.
19. Umma Map
Umma Map uses Mapbox. The Mapbox logo and attribution control remain on the map; directory credits and the ODbL data offer are available in Map data. Optional Mapbox telemetry is off by default and can be changed in Privacy settings. Essential map and billing requests still occur with telemetry off.
Sabil by Umma is a Pro feature for in-app navigation to any destination. Navigation to server-verified masjids, schools and cemeteries is also available on Free within the monthly allowance and estimated-cost limits. Route preview and “Open in” remain available when native navigation is unavailable or a Free limit is reached. Follow road rules and local law; use controls only when stopped. Directions and arrival estimates may be incomplete or out of date.
Home, Work, School and five favourites are free; Pro adds unlimited favourites and lists. Saved places remain encrypted on the native device and are not synced or backed up. External directions open an installed navigation app, whose own terms apply. The future in-app navigation allowance is 60 Free trips per calendar month; new Free trips fall back to external directions if the configured monthly cost estimate reaches $1,000 or pricing is unavailable. Pro is not cut off by that guard. In-app navigation itself is not included in this foundation release.
Safety Check lets you make your shared items private, leave circles silently and end Rafiq sessions. Circle tags are optional; you can turn them off, remove a tag or block its sender. A masjid is included in invite text only when the sender chooses to add it. Copies already seen by another person cannot be recalled.
